Sunrise Pages August

What Adventure Awaits, Dear Creator!

It’s a bright morning, with clear, blue sky to the west, and a hazy fog burning off to the east.  Sleep Scale for last night: 4/5.  As I sat for a few minutes and simply watched outside, I heard, and then spied, a red cardinal in the trees outside my window.  I wonder if this one is a juvenile, still figuring out his way in the world.

And then I thought, “I haven’t seen any goldfinch in a few days.”  I continued to gaze out my window, and half a minute later, as if on cue, a goldfinch flew from around the house next door to land in the brush alongside.  It went from weed to weed, changing its position a few times, right at the corner of the house, and then, within a minute from when it first appeared, off it flew, back around the house and away.

Last night in our book club, we discussed how we follow that pull from our body to do those things we are drawn to; to not think our actions, but just act; to, as Zen says, enter a state of doing by not-doing.

A simple example of this that most of us have experienced is tapping along mindlessly to the beat of a song.  We suddenly notice that our body decided to tap our foot, or drum our fingers along with the beat.

Similarly, it’s the feeling I got when I was given the idea of these Sunrise Pages on my Christmas Day walk.  My body had such a feeling of “YES!” to the idea.  It was only my lizard mind, in the days after, who did his best to scare me out of it.  And, in the end, I had a lot of reasons not to do it, and only my body’s feeling of “YES!” when I just followed that “YES!”

It’s been so worth it.

Doodling was the same.  I saw the doodles of Allison Crow and loved them.  I learned that she had trained through The Doodle Institute, and I did the first training video they offered, and then started off creating my own Turtle & Lama.  Who I miss.

But, all that impulse, and learning and creating, was listening to the “YES!” of my body.

So, here, Dear One, is a Prompt for you:

Your body does a lot without you needing to think about it – heartbeat, temperature regulation, digestion, dilation and constriction of blood vessels and pupils, and guiding you toward nourishment and rest.

Meditating opens space between us and our thoughts.  Practicing meditation and creating that space, see if you can start feeling the “YES!” messages from your body.

You might be surprised what your body wants you to try.

How about, this week, giving some of them a try?

Listening to my “YES!”  Thank you, My Dear Guides!
