One Truth, Grand Universe!

The morning sky is filled with clouds.  Through the breaks and gaps in between clouds, the dawn shined, lighting up the clouds’ underbellies.

Today is another day that is mine.  What I mean by that is that I am not scheduled at work.  So, how I spend my day is completely my call.  My choice.

Time and again, though, I frustrate and disappoint myself by not accomplishing what I hoped to do; not getting done the things I tell myself I should do; not doing all those things I’m always telling myself I’d be doing, if only I had the time.

Does this ever happen to you, Dear One?

Still, I think about intention and energy, like what I experienced the other day.  I’m going to focus on the opportunity of this present moment, instead of dwelling on my old patterns and “shoulds.”

Which encourages me to be more successful and satisfied today – looking at my past behavior and lost opportunity, and then beating up on myself?  Or, recognizing that in this new moment, today, I can make a new choice and fill my soul with delight?

I often think of The Dalai Lama – to me, he is a representative of equanimity; the Peaceful Soul.

Jack Kornfield recently told a story about a conversation he had with a fellow who had been at a week-long peace conference with The Dalai Lama.  The gentleman was telling Jack how exhausted he was from the long, intense days, and that he didn’t know how The Dalai Lama stayed so present all the time.

Jack asked, “Well, are you aware that The Dalai Lama gets up really early in order to spend at least three hours a day in meditation?”

The fellow answered, “Yeah, I’m so tired that I sleep as long as possible, getting up just 15 minutes before my first meeting so that I can get as much rest as possible, but I’m still exhausted.”

He didn’t see Jack’s point, that it might well be The Dalai Lama’s dedicated meditation practice that was actually providing more benefit than simply rest, allowing The Dalai Lama to be centered, energetically recharged, and amazingly present and peaceful.

Please consider Today’s Prompt:

Dear One, I offer you two notions today.

First, keep setting your intentions.  Don’t give up on yourself.  As you continue to look where you want to go, you draw more and more of your focused attention there.  That matters, and will accumulate energy and motivation.

Second, start and continue a practice, no matter how brief, of daily meditation.  Even just one minute that you claim for yourself – in silence, without outside distraction, where you quiet your mind, notice your breath, and hear the whisper of your heart.

It will fill you up in the best way.  And, that’s a good thing.

That small space for self holds the entire Universe!  Thanks for the Love, Dear Guides!
