Warm Considerations, Dear Universe –

Another day begins damp and gray.  It’s been raining the last couple days, which we need.  So, that seems good.

Many trees have lost their leaves and are bare, after the wind and rain we’ve had.  But, there’s a sugar maple right outside my window that is still full, holding so many of its leaves, which have turned that distinctive, autumn-red color that would practically glow in the late afternoon sun.

That sugar maple is in the yard next door.  It’s a yard with a house that’s a barn-red color, and looks a lot like it may have begun as a barn, and then a house grew out of it.

It is a large and rambling structure, with different peaks and additions that, I guess, were added over time.  There’s a closed-in porch on the back that’s tar-papered but not shingled.  And, the barn-like garage is two-story with a metal roof, whose peak sags like old barns tend to do.

It strikes me as a rather sad-looking property.  There’s a collection of lumber, barrels, and a sundry of other junk accumulated around the back of the house; there’s a variety of equipment and a few broken-down trucks and cars in the yard; and, the house additions have an amateur but functional look, not aesthetically finished or integrated into the whole.

This house has grown on me over the year since we moved here.  I see how the sun’s angles create some great light on it.  I look beyond it at the treeline that lines our little valley.  I’ve enjoyed spying the groundhog or two who have come by to investigate the property.

It seems suited to here, and I am feeling that now.

Today’s Prompt:

Appreciation and Gratitude –

Dear One, we sometimes get so fixated on what “should be” that we lose touch with appreciating what we have; what we’ve been given.

Take a moment and list three things you are currently struggling with – maybe a personal relationship, job, or financial challenge.

Please don’t tell yourself that you have to discount your struggles.  But, is there still something, in this moment, for which you can be grateful – maybe the underlying love in the relationship; an aspect of accomplishment or connection that your job provides you; or, the clarity and motivation you’ve found for getting your financial house in order?

Opening your heart to gratitude can open your mind to change.

I think there’s a beauty and spirit to every place.  Thanks, Dear Guides, for helping me to see it here!
