Delight, Compassionate Creator!

Rich, dark blue and violet overcast, this morning before dawn; the sky was in abrupt transition from this deep color above to a horizon of bright white.  It was ominous.

Then, for just a few minutes, the underside of the thick cloud cover lit up in blazing red-orange.  So beautiful.  Some moments can be just so obviously amazing.

We are definitely feeling winter up here.  We had snow flurries throughout the day yesterday, and cold, blustery conditions will continue the next few days.

What can we do, Dear One, when a loved one is struggling?

We want to help and be supportive; we want to fix whatever the problem is.

Sometimes, we can also feel some guilt for not struggling, while our loved one is.  Knowing that we can’t just pull them out of their problems, there’s a temptation to allow ourselves to get pulled down into our own.  This sympathetic response is geared toward avoiding discomfort by having us suffer together.

These are the Old Rules, the Old Patterns – and, it’s not constructive.

Isn’t it better to model hope and self-care?  It is a delicate balance, sure – we want to be there, and we may believe we’re supposed to do anything, and give up everything, for those we love.

But, I offer you this, Dear One – sometimes, that’s exactly where the suffering of our loved one lives.  Their belief that they should be everything to everybody.  And then hurting; because no one can live up to that.

I offer you Today’s Prompt:

Dear One, think of a previous time when you were struggling.

Although it may have felt good to have a loved one care for you and try to fix it, did it not ultimately come down to you fixing things yourself, and probably changing certain things you did and believed?

Turn to your sense of integrity.  Communicate your love, and make time and space for your loved one, while honoring what you yourself needs.

There’s no perfect solution.  Follow your heart, and be loving and strong, for both your sakes.
