Kindness is a core value of my coaching work. I believe it’s always appropriate, and it always helps.
So, if you are looking for a “boot camp, drill sergeant” type of coach, I’m not it.
I find that kindness offers space for healing, can create a more positive outlook, and it elevates and motivates.
I mean, just think about it—how did it feel the last time someone said something kind to you? Maybe they appreciated something you created, or they acknowledged your calm and positive attitude in a tough situation, or they simply shared a smile with you.
It can really help to feel seen for who we are and how we are trying to live our lives.
But a lot of us have experienced periods of our lives where kindness was scarce. And the rules of our society often equate kindness with weakness. Especially for men. And success. We’ve all been told “Nice guys finish last.”
We’ve been told to believe that we can be bullied into a better version of ourselves. That shame will keep us on the narrow path to success.
I’ve worked with clients who have felt stuck, in part, because in their hearts they yearned to be kind, loving beings, but that conflicted with the old rules they learned about needing to be cut-throat, unemotional, and driven in order to succeed.
So much of it depends on how you define success. If, to you, success looks like satisfaction and contentment; physical, mental, and emotional wellness; work/life balance; and healthy relationships, with others and yourself; then I believe we could do some really good work together.
