Is there a gap between the life you long for and the one you’re currently living? Meaning, when you think of your ideal life, your best life—are you already living it, or is there still a ways to go before you get there?
If you’re already there, Congratulations! If not, read on.
How big is the gap? How far away does your ideal life feel to you? For many, it can feel quite far away. And for some, it may feel impossibly far. But, in reality, with the right strategies and consistency, it may be nearer than you think.
Do you feel like you’re closing the gap? Or is the gap growing? Have you spent any time studying your gap and finding solutions to narrow it? Are those strategies working?
Or do you feel lost and the situation hopeless, like you are drifting further and further away from your dream life?
So, what does it take for a man to close the gap and get closer and closer to living his ideal life? It takes vision and awareness. It means living deliberately and intentionally. It requires going beyond just your thoughts, and opening up to your heart and feelings, and your spirit and energy, to utilize all their information and guidance in choosing the best steps along your journey.
In Men’s Work @SunriseJourneys, we use Integrative Wellness as the guidance system to our best life. Our mind, heart, body, energy, and spirit are always working together, and the information they provide us can point us in the direction that best serves our goals, values, and greatest good.
So, a big part of the work we do is about learning to listen to all the parts of us, and then learning how to interpret those messages we are receiving. This is an art that will lean on your intuition and creativity to translate and understand your inner messages.
Next can be some of the hardest work—trusting those messages and implementing them. It’s one thing to listen and hear your inner messages. It’s something else entirely to trust them enough to let them guide your decision-making. Because, many times, your head, social conditioning, and learned patterns of behavior are going to point one way, while your inner messages point in another.
It can feel uncomfortable and vulnerable to do something different than what you’ve always done. Something different from what others expect from you.
But, if you want a different outcome, you have to make different choices and take different actions.
Said another way: Has what you’ve been doing been working for you? If you still have a big gap between you and your best life, then probably not.
Here’s the good news: You can run this as an experiment. As you practice listening to all the parts of you and receiving your inner messages, you can begin experimenting with letting those messages guide you. You’ll soon discover that your inner guidance is pointing you toward your true values, toward your passions and beliefs, toward the person you most want to be and the life you most want to live.
As that comes more into focus, you will face a simple choice: Live in integrity with your true self or keep doing what you’ve been doing.
The choice is yours.
