Joyful Morning, Great Creator!

I’m up before dawn this morning, and I figure I’ll get the chance to witness it as I write these words.

I’m up this early because I’m leading a hike up Mount Cardigan this morning.  The forecast is cloudy and cool, with a chance of showers.  The theme of the hike is fall foliage, which might appear brighter under cloud cover.

I woke to a message from my co-lead on the hike, informing me that he is in the hospital with a partially collapsed lung.  So, I may be leading a large group of people by myself, as it’s likely not enough notice to get another instructor.

It’s a good opportunity for me to learn and practice.

That brings me to a direction I’m finally exploring, through the suggestion of my mentor.  Music.  Making music.  Playing music.

I’ve been playing my trumpet every day since my last mentoring session.  The idea is that it is an avenue that taps into my creative expression and my joy, but also into honoring duty and practice.

On a side note, I think it says something interesting that, up until now, this latest journey of mine, to explore my creative expression, has been about beginning anew.  Doodling, drawing, even writing have been largely first time pursuits.  The trumpet, which I started playing when I was eight or nine years old, has sat silently during this latest creative phase.

Not that I didn’t think about it.  Often.  I would consider playing it, but then make some excuse and go in another direction.  Until now.  We’ll see where this leads.

How we do one thing is how we do everything.

And, Today’s Prompt:

Dear One – sometimes we take the idea of “re-inventing” ourselves too literally.

It can be wonderful to dive into something rich and new that perhaps we have always dreamed of trying, but always hesitated, never before dared.

Still, let’s not overlook some things we may have really enjoyed when we were younger, only to drop because we were criticized, or we were too concerned over not being “good enough.”

Rediscover old passions that you’ve had, and see if you can reignite those fires!

Creative expression doesn’t take magic.  It’s about showing up and doing.  Yet, with that, sometimes magic manifests!  Joy and Love, Dear Guides!
